New Wings for the New Year!
Mary MacManara's is our new home for Wednesday Wings! We went there at the suggestion of Founding Member Karl and they hit it out of the park. The place is very nice, the Wings were great and they are 10 CENTS each, just like Croxleys! But it doesnt end there, every Wednesday, ALL PINTS od beer are just $3! That means you dont have to setlle for the "Beer Of The Week" $4 special that Croxley's has, you now have a choice of many fine brews on tap and save a buck! We had a massive meal of Wings in many cool flavors and the bill was around $50 bucks! It is easy to finf, right off Sunrise Hwy in Lynbrook, behind the White Castle! Here is the offical 411: Mary MacNamara's
44 Stauderman Avenue, Lynbrook, NY 11563
The service was excellent, we had no wait for a table of 9 of us Hornets. It has been totally renovated and the new owners are very nice, they even bought us a cake! While we loved Croxleys, we look foward to going to MacNamaras every Wednesday night from now on. We want to thank Karl for letting us know about this great place and a special thank you to everyone at MacNamara's. Scoot On!!!

The Hornets Cold Weather Challenge!
So you want to still ride? Want to test out thst winter gear? Well, that's nice. Here is your chance to prove how "cool" you really are. We arent going to have many group rides once it gets cold (er) - so what will we do to keep our minds on our scooters?
Introducing The Hornets Cold Weather Challenge. Other Clubs have done this both locally and nationally and now it is our turn. Results and updates will be posted here and on other forums including modernvespa.com... Here is the 411:
THE OFFICIAL RULES
1.All rides must be on a two-wheeled motorscooter. No motorcycles. No sidecars. No three-wheelers (Yes, the Piaggio MP3 has three wheels and is ineligible.)
2.Entries must meet the minimum distance requirement of just 5 miles of continuous riding. List your distance in miles (to one decimal place if desired), and measure your route using a GPS or Google Maps if possible. Scooter odometers lie.
3.List the ambient temperature in degrees Fahrenheit as listed by NOAA at the time and place of your ride. No, wind chill doesn’t matter when you’re already riding 30+mph. If the temperature varies over the course of your ride, post the average of the high and low temperature.
4.Coldest temperature wins. If you go 50 miles in 20°F, and somebody else only does 5 miles in 19°F, 19°F wins. Distance is relevant only to break ties. 5 mile minuimum ride.
5.This is just for fun, and on the honor system. Don’t lie or cheat.
6.Your entry must be a ride you just did. Don’t post about how last year you rode in really cold weather.
7.Contest starts at 12:01 am on December 13, 2011 ends at midnight on Feb. 28, 2012.

How to ride in a group.
I know this is a touchy subject amongst our club, but it is something that must be dealt with. Riding in a group. Too be honest, we suck at it. I look in my mirror and I see people in the middle, people in another lane and people so far behind that I can hardly see them at all. Most of the time it is not a lack of knowledge, but a lack of having the ability, the desire to twist that throttle. See the RIGHT image to the left, <---- that should be you! Leaving gaps in the pack by not accelerating enough invites cars to come into the pack and splits us up. It also makes going thru the lights a nightmare. A group of 10 of us usually take up 3 times the space we should. This weekend we will be riding in a large group of Scooters and Motorcycles. We wont be going fast at all, but leaving too much space between each other will be a problem. It shows you do not know how to ride in a group and fear accelerating. Other riders will instantly see this and seek to avoid you causing mayhem with people trying to pass you or our whole group. With all the group riding we do, we should be experts by now. Twisting that throttle is something you should not fear. Speed is not the issue, acceleration is the issue. Smaller bikes require an aggresive throttle, weather you like it or not to maintain safe riding in a group at any speed. See that picture up there of "Staggered Formation" - That is how close we should be ALL THE TIME. 6 Scoot lengths between riders is just downright wrong and dangerous to us all.
